Learn How to Stay Safe Around Fire
Fire can be helpful, but it can also be dangerous if not handled properly. The Bloomingburg Joint Fire District wants all children to understand how to stay safe at home, at school, and in their community. Learning fire safety now can help protect you and your family.
Know the Sounds of Safety
Smoke alarms are your first warning sign in a fire.
-
Learn what a smoke alarm sounds like
-
If you hear the alarm, get out immediately
-
Never hide from a fire - get outside and stay outside
-
Tell a grown-up if you hear a “chirping” alarm (it may need new batteries)
Make a Home Escape Plan
Every family should have a fire escape plan.
-
Know two ways out of every room
-
Practice your escape plan with your family
-
Choose a meeting place outside, like a tree or mailbox
-
Once outside, never go back inside for anything
Stay Low and Go
Smoke rises, so clean air is closer to the ground.
-
If there is smoke, get low and crawl
-
Cover your nose and mouth if you can
-
Move quickly to the nearest exit
Stop, Drop, and Roll
If your clothes ever catch fire:
Matches and Lighters Are Not Toys
-
Never touch matches or lighters
-
Tell an adult if you find them
-
Fire tools should only be used by grown-ups
Kitchen Safety
Electrical Safety
Call 911 in an Emergency
-
Call 911 if there is a fire or emergency
-
Know your home address so you can tell the dispatcher
-
Only call 911 for real emergencies
Meet Your Firefighters
Firefighters are your friends and are here to help.
-
Firefighters wear special gear to stay safe - don’t be scared
