Fire District
The Bloomingburg Joint Fire District was formally established on December 7, 1960. The District serves the Village of Bloomingburg, the southeastern portion of the Town of Mamakating in Sullivan County, and a section of the Town of Wallkill in Orange County, New York. The first Chairman of the Board of Fire Commissioners was Joseph P. Lloyd.
In 1986, the Board of Fire Commissioners initiated a long-term apparatus standardization program to modernize and unify the department’s fleet. As part of this effort, six Pierce fire apparatus have been purchased since that time. Currently, four of these units remain in active service, including a 2010 Heavy Rescue, which continues to support the department’s operational capabilities.
In 2008, district taxpayers approved the construction of a new 15,300-square-foot firehouse to meet the growing needs of the community. The facility features five apparatus bays, including two drive-through bays, as well as a meeting room, laundry room, hazardous materials decontamination shower, and dedicated office space for line officers, the Ladies Auxiliary, the Fire Company President, and the Board of Fire Commissioners. Construction was completed in July 2009, and the Fire Company officially transitioned into the new facility at that time.
With a strong foundation built on decades of progress and community support, the Board of Fire Commissioners remains committed to maintaining a productive and cooperative relationship with the Fire Company. Together, they continue to ensure the delivery of reliable, professional fire protection and emergency services to the residents of the Bloomingburg Joint Fire District.
